I'll be birding by bicycle across one of the most biologically diverse parts of Canada

I am participating in the Great Canadian Birdathon to raise money for Long Point Bird Observatory (LPBO). Birdathon is the oldest sponsored bird count in North America and LPBO is the oldest bird observatory in North America - a match made in heaven.

I'll be doing my Birdathon from the seat of my bicycle, covering over 50 km of roads and trails in southern Norfolk County, the heart of Canada's Carolinian ecosystem. My route will take me from the old growth forests of Backus Woods and the Wilson Tract, to remnant patches of tall grass prairie, to the expansive coastal wetlands and beaches of Long Point. I expect to count over 150 species of migrants and breeding birds in one 24-hour period.

Why support my Birdathon? Because I'll be raising money for one of the longest-running bird population monitoring projects on Earth. Every spring and fall LPBO staff and volunteers collect data that are used to infer the health of Canadian bird populations. LPBO's data help to inform important bird and habitat conservation decisions. Additionally, LPBO also supports ground-breaking academic research, public education, and other conservation initiatives.

It takes a huge financial investment to run LPBO, and Birdathon is one way to help. Please help me reach my fundraising goal! Simply click "Give Now" to make a donation.

The birds and I thank you in advance for your generosity!
